DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The work involves responsibility for the performance of clerical-related tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment in the application of prescribed procedures, and the full-time use of the computer for the entry and retrieval of information. Duties in this class may involve public contact. Work is reviewed by observation, cross checks, periodic or spot checks, or other steps in the clerical process.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

School main office secretary

Manipulates a keyboard using word processing, spreadsheet, and more database management software to accomplish a variety of tasks;

Keyboards, sorts and files correspondence, forms, notices, form letters, payrolls, bills, vouchers, records, catalog cards, reports, index cards, memoranda, rosters and other materials;

Answer phones

Reviews accounts, reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy in conformity with established procedure;

Receives, indexes, records, and copies and retrieves materials from files;

Orders office supplies and materials;

Acts as receptionist, directing callers to the proper person or office and give information of a routine nature.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment;

Good knowledge of basic arithmetic functions of the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;

Good knowledge of the procedures, regulations, and precedents governing the agency’s clerical operation;

Working knowledge of the agency’s programs ,objectives and goals;

Ability to follow oral and written directions;

The ability to instruct, assigning and review the work of a small number of subordinates;

Ability to prepare a narrative or a tabular material on a program or segment of the program;

Ability to operate an elf of numeric keyboard of such as a typewriter, word processor or personal computer then acceptable rate of speed;

Ability to perform close detail work involving considerable revision to Lafferty and strain;

Ability to articulate ideas and information and effectively;

Ability to deal effectively with people;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school diploma and a minimum of one year of clerical experience a plus.
